Notes
This manuscript contains the entire Qur’an, framed with teardrop-shaped leaf decorations. This long manuscript, extending along five display panels, contains the entire Qur’an, 114 in number, written with horsehair in a script that is difficult to read with the naked eye. Due to its size and weight, Muslim travelers and pilgrims in particular prefer this type of Qur’anic manuscript for its ease of carrying. However, it is believed that this type of manuscript like the one shown here was used more as an amulet for protection during long journeys than for reading. Today, applications on smartphones allow access to the Holy Qur’an with a single click, while many hotels around the world provide holy books to their guests.
