Notes
At number 12 of Ahmed and Mohamed Moshiri Street, we discover the entrance door of the palace, which is surmounted by a cornice covered with a roof lined with a row of hollow tiles. The door consists of one huge shutter, within which a small door (khokha) opens. The whole was highlighted and decorated with a ring of decorative bronze nails. This door opens into a first shed, which in turn leads to the second main shed through a second door decorated with a white marble frame. The latter - the second shed - is rectangular in shape and covered by perpendicular vaults, and its sides are lined with niches that form “shops.” The end of the shed includes a skylight that allows the entry of a beam of light that highlights a bed, which L imagines. In his book, “Palaces and Doors of the City of Algiers in the Ottoman Era,” Gulvin depicts the owner of the house sitting there on the day of his important meetings. Another shed, governed by two doors framed with white marble as it was known during this period, allows for ensuring communication between the main shed, which is frequented by strangers, and the center of the house. The latter was surrounded by corridors with arches supported by marble columns, and separated by tile bands that decorated the upper section. Ceilings supported by small wooden bridges covered the corridors of the ground floor and the first floor. Spacious rooms open to the hallways through a large door consisting of two large leaves with two small doors inside them, leaning against the walls. On either side of the door, quadrilateral windows open with bars and are surmounted by a flat lintel (from the outside). The square paneling that covers the walls stops above the level of the window frames, which are surrounded by a band of ceramic squares.
