Notes This figure, with a human head and an animal body, was found in Rafiqa, the twin city of Raqqa, in 1924. It has the shape of a rooster in the David Collection and the shape of a horseman in the Syrian National Museum. As ceramic sculptures, they are not only unique in Syria but also in the rest of the Islamic world. They are shapes of fountains, and they all have pipes that deliver water to the tops of the heads of the shapes.
