Notes
This is a true original piece of Iranian fine art in ceramics, a double-layered underglazed jug in the shape of a rooster dating back to the beginning of the thirteenth century. The openwork decorative elements (figures of winged creatures with the body of an animal, a human head, and floral images) are emphasized by black paint under a transparent turquoise glaze. The double-walled jugs used on dining tables and fonts were true artistic developments of Qashan pottery and had been considered by Iranians to be a source of purely ritual and optimism since pre-Islamic times.
