Notes The astrolabe was made by Ahmed Ibn al-Sarraj for Muhammad al-Tanukhi in the year 729 AH. The borders of the disk are inscribed with the names of four owners, two of whom are named temporary, meaning astronomers employed for religious purposes. It is the only known specimen of the Islamic general astrolabe. Ahmed Ibn al-Sarraj lived in Aleppo at the beginning of the fourteenth century and was the author of treatises on mathematics and astronomy. 729/1328-29
