It became the most popular book of the Mamluk era on horsemanship, and many illustrated copies were made for Mamluk masters in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, and the current copy is the oldest known copy. The book was divided into twelve chapters or lessons on horsemanship and war. The manuscript's nineteen illustrations depict the use of various weapons such as the bow, spear, sword and arrow and many military tactics including the formation of battle lines in battle.
