Notes
The dough was covered with a white lining under a yellow, variegated ground. The spherical cavity is extended by a neck without loops, long and narrow, which ends - the neck - with an obtuse lip. This vessel, which has a slightly heavy yet symmetrical appearance, is characterized by a rich decoration painted in brown and green, whose themes are drawn from architecture and domesticated animals. One surface of its interior is decorated with a stylized figure of a bird of the chicken family, while the space on the opposite side is occupied by a second figure of a chicken with its wings greatly spread. As for the rest of the decoration, it seems that the artist gave free rein to his imagination: between decorative elements in the form of checkerboard squares, the ground was decorated with diamonds, circles, and dots. This decoration, inspired by the Amazigh heritage, indicates that African (Tunisian) art, despite being completely absorbed by Eastern influences, had developed an innovative character.
