Library Location Mudawara Castle is located in southern Jordan near the Jordanian-Saudi border, Mudawara, Jordan
Date 1142- 1145 / 1730- 1733
Notes Al-Mudawara Castle is the last stop on the Hajj-Shami road before crossing the borders of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In addition to the castle, the site includes a pond and a paved road. The castle takes the shape of a square with a side length of 19 metres, and the maximum height of the remaining walls is about 9 metres. At the corners of the castle, pillars were erected at a height of one meter above the floor level, with small towers above them. In the surrounding walls, narrow openings are arranged in two strips. There are terraced terraces above the northern and western walls, while the walls on the rest of the sides are devoid of these terraces. It should be noted that the northern and western walls are higher than the other walls, and that the upper parts of them are built of stone blocks that differ from the stones in the rest of the building, and therefore perhaps represent a late period of repairs and rebuilding. The castle is entered through a rectangular gate leading to a corridor covered by a barrel vault overlooking a central courtyard measuring 8 x 8 m. The gate is surmounted by a large lattice that protrudes from the height of the eastern wall. Its dimensions are 5.50 x 2.50 m. The ratchet has a front window and a narrow opening on either side. The central courtyard is surrounded by two floors, each consisting of nine rooms covered by barrel vaults. The ascent to the upper floor was done by two stone stairs built on either side of the corridor.
