Notes
The few types of 17th-century Iranian porcelain vessels, freely painted and covered with fissures, were traditionally known as Kubachi porcelain. This traditional name comes from the village of Dagestan, where in the nineteenth century a large number of centers for making Iranian Safavid pottery were concentrated. However, the production centers for the various Kobashi vessels still need to be identified. Innovations in Iranian miniature painting in the seventeenth century, especially those associated with portraits, were reflected in the decoration of ceramic vessels. The large plate decorated with multi-colored paint represents favorite images of the Safavid era. The images of a lush garden with birds symbolize the pleasures of earthly paradise and the happiness promised to heavenly paradise. The handsome young dervish meditating in the lush garden expresses the beloved sanctity in a symbolic Sufi-Islamic language. The multi-coloured painting of various plants appearing in the natural curves of their branches and branches was inspired by Turkish ceramics in Iznik in the late 16th century. This type of vessel was probably produced in the workshops of Komisheh (now Shahriza), a small town near Isfahan.
