Notes
In the Raqqa region, which extends between the east of the Euphrates River and its tributary Balikh, a group of palaces dating back to the Abbasid era were found. They were given the letters A, B, C, D. This piece of glass was found in Palace B in the Raqqa region. It is a transparent, honey-colored cup decorated with floral designs in the style of trellises, which are distributed within horizontal and vertical fields. The floral shapes on the piece were executed with incisions, and the inside of each leaf was worked with straight, parallel lines. This piece is considered one of the important pieces in terms of the technique of making thin glass incised with a sharp tool. This technical method of decorating glass was known in Roman times, and has always been used in conjunction with other techniques. In the Islamic era, this type of decoration became sufficient to express the elegance and beauty of the glass piece, and the incisions became deeper and more precise.
