Notes
The piece may be part of a bed, a large chair, or a throne. It bears a blessing inscription in Kufic: “Blessing, good fortune, happiness and contentment to the owner.” The decorative band is engraved in a beveled style, typical of the ninth century, with a symmetrical formation of a specially styled lotus flower and fan-shaped palmettes. There are a number of similar pieces of wood in the museum’s collections that share similar formations and engravings.
