Notes With its graphic frieze in which the letters end in animal heads, lions that appear as if they were alive, phoenixes rooted in Sassanid and Byzantine traditions, and sumptuous lotus-like flowers on vines drawn in the form of arabesques, the tapestry combines features from Eastern and Western culture. The use of paper for silver threads refers to China, while the iconography is Western.
