Notes
This long, narrow piece of silk consists of a central field and a border, and on the central field appears a free grid of interconnected lavender flowers, four of which correspond to an eight-petaled floret at each articulating point of the grid. The spaces created by the network include eight-pointed star shapes, which also include circular ornaments containing eight-petaled florets with green trifoliate grasses and red serrated leaves extending out from the frame of the ornaments. The ground of the formation is crimson. The outer frame consists of an outer band and an inner band carrying floral scrolls surrounding a central space decorated with intricate arabesque scrolls. Carpets hung within the tents were used to decorate the interior surfaces by royal dignitaries or senior officers when outside their palaces.
