Notes
The piece is a wood insert with an unadorned slanted frame. The decorative theme of the filling is represented by a relief engraving of two completely identical heads of two bridle horses facing each other on a ground of branches and plant leaves, transformed from arabesques and executed in deep recessed engraving. The horses' combs are decorated with shallow engravings, as are their bridles. The surface of the filling is decorated with floral decorations consisting of two branches emerging from the center of the base and extending in two directions. Then they connect between the necks of the two horses, enclosing beautiful petioles between them, then they extend to the top with petioles of two halves of a palm fan. The levelness of the spatial divisions, the symmetry of the decoration in each section, and the precise symmetry between the two longitudinal halves of the filling are evident in this filling. This filling can be compared to another found in the Metropolitan Museum in New York, which is no different from the piece before us. It was also made of wood and also has relief engravings of the heads of two horses facing each other. This piece may be a filling from a door, a closet, or a wooden curtain.
