Notes During the nineteenth century, styles of European glass were developed in West and South Asia. Manufacturers, for example in Baccarat in France, responded to these markets by producing glass pieces with shapes and aesthetics that appealed to these new customers. This chandelier is believed to have been made for export to India. In fact, Doris Duke purchased the chandelier in 1966 from the owner, Salar Jung, a well-known antique collector in Hyderabad, India.
