Notes
The decoration of this mural hanging is characteristic of the 19th century: it shows a cypress tree, here flanked by two smaller trees, in an alcove. The central motif is bordered to the right and left by a wide border, reminiscent of borders on carpets. The hanging is made using the ikat technique, but in this case a much more complex material was used, and it was made not only of silk or cotton, but in the form of ikat velvet. They were made in Kashan, and perhaps also in Yazd. Based on some inscribed elements, the period of manufacture is proven from 1896 to 1925, that is, exactly until the end of the Qajar period.
