Notes
This piece in Turkish (Chatma Yastik Yuzu) is a luxurious pillow cover made of open velvet and brocade (brocade fabric) used to decorate the living rooms of the homes of the rich in the Ottoman Empire in the period of the 16th-18th century AD. For approximately 150 years, the design has a rectangular shape with dimensions of approximately 110 cm It consists of six arched areas filled with smaller floral images, and the museum piece depicts large circles as a central image that was most likely produced in the 16th and first half of the 17th centuries. The high quality of the silk, its deep crimson color intensity, and the abundant use of silver-wrapped threads (now partially missing) all indicate that the pillowcase was made in Bursa, the main center of the silk textile industry in the Ottoman era.
