Notes
This openwork ornament originally belonged to a magnificent banner that was carried during religious, military and civil occasions. The Arabic inscriptions, written in thuluth script, read “There is no god but God” in the middle, and send words of blessing to Ali - the Prophet Muhammad’s cousin and son-in-law - and to his two sons, Al-Hassan and Al-Hussein.
