Notes A head ornament consisting of a tuft of feathers placed in a holder and tied to a headdress, such as a turban. The upper part of the holder is wide, while the lower end is narrow, similar to a hand fan. Sultans used to wear such jewelry, mounted on golden stands decorated with precious stones, and placed in the middle of their turbans as a symbol of their authority. The Sultan sometimes gave it to his employees as a sign of their favor with him. Janissary officers also wore it over their umrah to express their status. Lot No. 421 is a circular trinket holder with a straight leg. The surface of the stand is divided into clearly defined rhombuses by virtue of the enamelled decoration on the edges and background, as well as spiral plants and palmettes. The chamber holding the feather ornament is cylindrical in shape, from which two chains hang with two hooks in order to attach it to the turban. Piece No. 438 is a flat and wide ornament holder with a somewhat oval shape. The upper part of the stand is covered with a relief in the form of a floral decoration inspired by Chinese art, and there is a medallion in its centre. Moreover, its entire surface is decorated with small flowers and leaves in relief. At the top of the stand is a wide, flat cup, in the middle of which peacock feathers are fixed by narrow channels on the sides. As for the back side of the stand, its surface is spread with engraved papers. The chains that attach the holder to the turban are made of gold. Lot No. 447 is a wide, flat medallion-like holder, with a series of designs on its sides, and a tulip-shaped charm at the top. The decoration in the middle is decorated with diamonds and rubies, and has the shape of a rose with golden leaves drawn on a green enamel background and a turquoise border. Piece No. 419 is a trinket holder with a straight stem. The ring of the stand cavity is decorated with floral patterns inspired by Chinese art. The cup of the holder is shaped like a fluted ball, with loops at the bottom for attaching chains; The chains are missing. This piece was made for Hasaki Hürrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.
