Notes
Everyday utensils used in the Fatimid era were made of copper alloy, such as this basin. The conical shape, which is reminiscent of later, ancient vessels of a similar shape that were made of precious metals, continued to be used in Islamic ceramics and metalwork after the twelfth century. The decoration consists of a double row of alternating Kufic inscriptions that express good wishes to the owner of the piece and are decorated with scrolls and heart shapes.
