This fine example of Turkish craftsmanship was probably among the gifts sent by Sultan Murad III (1546-95 AD) to Rudolf II (1552-1612 AD) with an invitation to attend his son's circumcision. In turn, Emperor Rudolf presented the Turkish envoy with a chain and several cups worth 4,000 guilders for the Sultan.
