Notes
This panel is probably from a wooden door and is carved in the shape of two symmetrical relief horse heads. The beaded bands and bridles amidst the arabesque design testify to the great attention to detail on the part of the craftsman who made it. The piece was drilled at different depths in order to produce the effect of distributing light and image in which the Fatimid wood craftsmen excelled. The accompanying piece, which is certainly from the same section, is in the Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo.
