Ferdowsi's epic poetry (The Shahnameh/Book of Kings) was completed in 1010 and recounts the legendary history of all the Iranian shahs (kings) up to the Arab conquest of Persia in 642 AD and the country's conversion to Islam. It has been inspired by many illustrated copies. The present page shows one of the heroes: Rustam with the most extraordinary victories in a single battle. This page is cut from a copy known as the Shahnameh with the Big Head. This name refers to the special feature. Most of her paintings include the large heads of her human figures.
