Notes Mostly copies of Nizami's Kashma epic began to appear from the beginning of the 16th century, as is the case with this manuscript with double-page panels depicting, on the right, the Prophet Suleiman and on the left Bilqis (Queen of Sheba) sitting on golden thrones carried by jinn and surrounded by many known and unknown creatures. (It is said that Solomon understood the words of birds.) The other paintings included here depict the Abbasid Caliph Al-Ma'mun in the bath, the Persian prince Khosrow hunting, and the story of Alexander being attacked by huge birds.
