Notes
The piece is a Qur’an with a cover made of two pages and a flap (the closing fold). A longitudinal medallion with a spiral circumference is engraved in the middle of each cover. Surrounding the bundle, in the four corners of the cover, are four bands that rotate with the corners of the cover. These strips are framed, close to the edges of the cover, by a wide frame inside which is confined a decoration in the form of cartouches. As for the cover flap decoration, it consists of half of the decorative units that appear on one of the two covers. It is noted that the decorations of all the bands of the cover, as well as the bundle, consist of gilded plant branches and flowers. As for the inner part of the cover, it is defined on its four sides by a golden spiral frame, followed from the inside by decorative forms in the form of cartouches surrounding a middle center, and the ground of these decorations took on a blue color. The endowment of the Qur’an is shown on page 1b. Folios 3b-4a form the front of the Qur’an, and it consists of two pages identical in decoration and calligraphy, forming the center of the book where they meet. The margins of the two pages are decorated with drawings of branches, plant flowers, and geometric lines, all of golden color. The margins are followed on the inside by decorative bands surrounding each page on three sides, decorated with opposing pyramidal shapes in gold and blue. These bands are separated from the written text by frames of successive colors, followed on the inside by bands decorated with decorations similar to those of the previous bands, but smaller in size. The text on these two pages was written in golden thalth script, six lines per page, and the lines were separated by drawings in the form of purple clouds. Each of the remaining pages of the Qur’an was divided into five rectangles. In the first, third and fifth rectangles, he wrote one line from the Holy Qur’an in the golden Rayhani script, and four lines in Naskh script in each of the second and fourth rectangles. Two longitudinal sections were cut from the sides of each of these rectangles and decorated with spiraling, golden floral designs. The location of the quincunx and tenth marks is indicated by an ornament in the margin in the form of a circular disc with a gilded circumference and a circle with a blue background in the middle. The names of the surahs, the number of their verses, and the place of their revelation were written in gold within a gilded frame with a blue background.
