Notes The book Dala’il al-Khairat wa Shariq al-Anwar fi Dhikr al-Salaat upon the Chosen Prophet, known simply as Dala’il al-Khairat, is one of the most popular works of dhikr in the Islamic world. It was composed by one of the authors from Suss, Abu Abdullah Muhammad Ibn Sulaiman Ibn Abu Bakr al-Jazuli (died 1645). As its name indicates, the work consists of many prayers for the Prophet, along with his titles, a description of his grave, and graphic depictions that are found in most South African copies. However, the Ottoman copies of the work, especially those from the eighteenth century onwards, tend to include perspective figures of the two Holy Mosques in Mecca and Medina and thus differ from the manuscript text. The writing style – which is translucent/clear Moroccan – and the square format of this manuscript makes it of North African origin. But the gilding, the inclusion of Mecca, and the original binding are closer to regular Ottoman works, and they could have been copied anywhere, perhaps Mecca.
