Notes
Pictorial themes dealing with singing, dancing, and music predominate in the wall paintings in Qusayr Amra. Covering the façade of the eastern arch from the north in the reception hall is an image of a dancer next to whom are three people playing an unclear musical instrument. One person appears to be hitting a drum or tambourine with his right hand, while the second holds a flute in his mouth, and the third, many of whose features have disappeared, appears to be hitting a cymbal with his hands. The dancer wears a long dress that reaches to the feet, decorated with small circular shapes with dark dots in the middle, and over the dress is a robe that reaches below the knees. The dancer appears with her arms raised above her head so that her index fingers touch each other.
