Notes Small geometric inlay patterns of octagons and stars cover the surface of this large door. To form the intricate designs, long, narrow strips of bone, ivory and green-painted wood were glued together in octagons or stars. The long strips were then cut into thin sections in the transverse direction, and a silver piece was attached to each of them for the wood base of the piece. The final step was sanding and coating the surface with varnish (glossy paint).
