Notes
The astrolabe is a calculating device used to solve many astronomical problems such as determining time. The body of the astrolabe is known as the mother and consists of a metal disc with a high frame. Within the mother are placed many circular metal plates, each of which is engraved with a two-dimensional projection representing the empty space of the heavens at a certain height. On top of these plates (the plate that matches the user's current position) is placed the web/spider on a perforated metal plate that acts as a star map, where the location of specific, bright stars is indicated by pointers. On the back end of the mother, there is a stellar, which is a pointing tool used to measure the height of the sun according to the day and of a particular star according to the night.
