Notes Purchased from an exhibition in Iran in 1938, these tiles are said to have come from Jolfa, an Armenian suburb of Isfahan, Iran. In fact, the live animals (such as ibex, ducks, tigers and deer) seen on the tiles are characteristic of Julfa tiles painted under glaze. To achieve the sharp multi-coloured designs seen on the Haft Ranji tile there is colored glaze separated by a black line that prevents the colors from blending together.
