Notes
The piece is a glass niche consisting of three sections: the base, the body, and the neck. It is entirely covered with very precise and elaborate floral decorations, colored in various colours, with enamel and abundant gilding. It also contains inscriptions and a standing emblem (Rank). The neck of the niche is wide and narrows as it approaches the body of the niche, thus taking the shape of a conical cup. In addition to the floral decorations that fill its entire surface, the neck contains an inscription band in the Mamluk third script, in dark blue, 8 cm high. It includes part of verse No. 18 of Surat Al-Tawbah (No. 9), which reads: “The mosques of God are inhabited only by those who believe in God and the Last Day.” The holy verse includes three round medallions with a red circle in the middle of each, and in the center of the circle is a gilded cup, which is the emblem of Prince Tankaz of Nazareth. Between the body and the neck of the niche is a decorative band consisting of eight stacked lotus flowers. The body of the niche is decorated with a relatively large inscription band written in gold water on a dark blue background, which reads: “With the drawing of the high residence of the Mawlawi, Amir Al-Saifi, all the honorable kingdoms of the guarded Levant will be pricked.” The script tape is cut into six straps to connect the chains carrying the niche. Below this strip is another strip containing floral decorations. The bottom of the body, before moving to the base, contains six medallions, three of which include logos and the remaining three include floral decorations. The base of the niche is 4 cm high, and it is wider at the bottom than at the top. This base is decorated with three bands filled with gilded floral decorations.
