Notes
This bowl is made using the enamel technique which was developed by the potters of Kashan and was very popular in the 12th century. Enamel vessels are known for using colored pigments under glass. Like many vessels made during this period, the bowl is lightly colored, gilded over the glaze, and has been fired several times. The inside of the bowl is decorated with two figures dancing around a small flowering tree, with their items flying on their heads. The edge of the bowl is engraved with Kufi script, wishing the owner happiness. The colorful image resembles miniature paintings of this era and is reminiscent of the life of the ruler and the cultural events of the region and may refer to Nowruz, the Iranian New Year.
