Notes
In 1873, the Vienna World Fair gave impetus to the spread of oriental style and fashion in middle-class society. At the same time, local handicrafts flourished by drawing inspiration from drawing from the abundant influx of imported materials. Everything has been transformed into an oriental style, from the ancient children's fork to the simple chairs. The Oriental Museum was founded in 1875 with the aim of promoting trade with the East, and its basic list of arts and professions was taken from the World Exhibition. Eleven years later, the Oriental Museum was renamed the “Austrian Commercial Museum.” And when Europe began to flood the market with locally produced and oriental-style materials, the oriental touch had lost its charm. At the end of the old century and the beginning of the new, a large part of the collection became part of the ethnological section of the Imperial and Royal Court Museum of Natural History (today it is the World Museum in Vienna). In 1925 the Austrian Commercial Museum was dissolved.
