Notes
Aside from the left ear being broken as well as a piece of the locking mechanism, this horse-shaped padlock is in good condition. The horse's appearance is natural, but it is poorly decorated. Its front legs are unusually elongated, its head is curved, and its snout is prominent. Between the rump and the hind leg and on the neck, the heads of the rivets are visible, and the crest is depicted by carved lines. The carved lines on the left limb appear a little more arranged, and the bridle is also shown by lines carved across the head. The eyes are two concentric circles, the legs are visible, and the cuffs and tail are the detachable part by means of a connected wire spring, all in the form of one piece. The locking mechanism is a wire spring and the keyhole is on the front. Although the key is missing, it is clear from the shape of the hole that it must be a T-shaped push lock. This type of horse-shaped lock is common and there are similar pieces within the Bumiller collection, but they are also found in other collections.
