Notes
This pair of tiles is decorated with the cuerda seca technique and shows three horsemen on horseback in bright colours. Cuerda seca literally means dry rope, a technique used in colored glazing to produce multi-coloured tiles. During the process, outer frame bands made of grease are used to protect the glass mixture during baking. This technique, which was common among Iranian pottery makers, was introduced to Türkiye at the beginning of the fourteenth century.
