Notes
The tower, with a square base, was built after careful study until it became visible. It consists of two floors, and there is a crown at the top. The intention is to remind of the Holy Kaaba and the Holy Stone in Mecca. The tower was combined with other buildings from the beginning of the thirteenth century that were built between the years 358 / 969 and the year 470 / 1078 on the orders of Caliph Al-Muizz li-Din Allah, and it was built in the space that was the center of Roman rule, and which before that was a market in the era. The Greek lands of Taormina are the last areas that the Arabs were able to subjugate during their period of control over the island of Sicily. Muslim control over it was not complete, especially the northeastern part of the island, where it remained unstable. Therefore, it became necessary to build fortified castles to protect Taormina.
