Notes These pages belong to one of a group of manuscripts produced in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, probably in Baghdad, by Ottoman Turkish masters. These manuscripts are generally classified as genealogical manuscripts (although not exclusively on this subject) and are known as Silsila-nama. It usually begins with the story of the Prophet Muhammad, followed by the history of the world from Adam to the ruling Ottoman Sultan, and is enhanced by illustrations with many small, medal-like portraits of the prophets and kings. Each person depicted is identified by an inscription. The manuscript opens with an illustrated frontispiece.
