Notes
This is one of the most amazing copies of the Qur’an ever produced. The text was copied by Rozbihan Muhammad al-Tabi al-Shirazi. Its beginning page contains suns engraved with an inscription from verse 17:88 of the Qur’an, followed by the frontispiece of a wonderful double page containing Al-Fatihah, which is the first surah in the Qur’an. The beginning of the next surah, Surat Al-Baqarah, is indicated with a detailed gilded title. The final sura of the text is surrounded by a gilded double-page opening from which rays resembling the rays of the sun emerge from its long borders. The text pages consist of blocks of lines in black calligraphy placed between longer lines of the large thuluth or muhaqqiq script in black or gold ink.
