Notes
This jar with an oval cavity does not have a base or a neck, as it rests on a bottom of a small diameter, and its filling serves as a lip. Traces left by the removal of the lugs make it possible to assume that they were flat, and perhaps had the shape of wings, as in the case of the famous urn lugs of the Alhambra. Four horizontal bands covered with bronze-green glaze decorate the upper third of the recess. The latter includes stamped decorative elements, defined by prominent bands of paste, incised with broken decorations. These repeating decorative elements that decorate the bands were inspired by floral elements (palmettes and florets) or epigraphic elements. On the upper band appear simplified decorative shapes that depict the word God or the word Yemen (Al-Hanaa) to express the existence of God and ask for His help and protection for the food products preserved in the jar. This form of decorative jars was common in archaeological sites during the Nasrid period in Andalusia.
