Notes
A copper coin in the style of the Waqif Caliph, dating back to the transitional period that preceded Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan’s monetary reforms in the year 77 / 694. The obverse of the coin shows a picture of the Caliph standing, wearing a long robe, placing his right hand on his sword, and his head is covered by an Arab-style headdress. Written on the edge of the coin is in simple Kufic script, starting from the top of the coin in a clockwise direction and reading “Abdullah Abd al-Malik, Commander of the Faithful.” On the back of the coin, there is a spherical shape with four steps above it and a star to the left, while on the right side there is the Ismadar al-Darb (Amman), the capital of Balqa, which was administratively affiliated with Jund Damascus. The writing on the margin of the coin’s back is written in reversed Kufic script, and starts from the bottom of the coin in a clockwise direction, and reads "There is no god but God and Muhammad is the Messenger of God."
