Notes The prayer hall is similar to the one in Sidi Bou Mediene, which is also entered through side doors. This hall includes five tiles perpendicular to the “Qibla” wall. Sixteen pillars and eight columns, made of stunning onyx with pink veins, brought from the Victory Palace in Mansoura, bear broken arches. The ceilings were built of carved cedar wood, clearly assembled, and a large part of the walls and arches were decorated with plaster, especially at the level of the corridors adjacent to the courtyard, where the decoration is very simple, reaching a height of 1.20 meters, and surmounted by very beautiful friezes bearing inscriptions in Kufic script. The mihrab is octagonal in shape and contains a dome decorated with muqarnas and rectangular panels. Its frame has lost all its decoration and rests on two columns, also made of the same onyx used in the prayer hall. The column capitals bear inscriptions, the one on the right capital relates to the prince for whom the mosque was built, and the one on the left capital refers to the prince who ordered its construction. The four-cornered minaret, which reaches a height of 25 meters, consists of two parts: the tower and the lantern dome, and it is considered a prominent piece of architecture. Since its base is exposed, it appears that the facade decorations extend to a level lower than the edge of the mosque’s roof. The courtyard, which has an area of about 10 x 10 metres, is surrounded by a portico on the east and west. The watershed is a square with seven images and two basins, and is separated from the mosque by a street. It is located opposite the minaret, where a nine-step turn leads to it. The watershed is covered by a dome that is visible from the outside.
