Notes The pen case is decorated with a distinctive ornament consisting of ill-defined leaf-like patterns interwoven together. In its entirety, it reminds us of spiral shapes. Three slightly raised brass-colored cartouches "float" above this greenish-yellow ground. It is filled with wavy decorations resembling the braid shape known to European goldsmiths. As far as we know, Rajab Ali developed this decoration in the first half of the nineteenth century, and Abu Talib later took this style and made it famous. This pen box was probably made by a copyist. According to the inscription on the top, this work was made at the request of a man named Hassan.
