Notes This ax belongs to an element of the personal guard of Sultan Muhammad bin Qatibay from the Caucasian Burji Mamluks. The Mamluks ruled Egypt and Syria from 1250 AD until the fall of their empire to the Ottomans in 1517 AD when the spoils of the Mamluks were transferred to Istanbul.
