Notes
A mosque lamp made of gilded glass inlaid with enamel, with a funnel-shaped neck, a round lip, a square body, a sloping shoulder, and a long leg that ends with a flat base bearing a distinctive mark at the bottom. The body is provided with six rings for hanging at equal distances. The lamp is completely decorated with gilded enamel executed in red, blue and light green. Around the neck is a band with floral borders, composed of an engraving executed in blue enamel in a third line. The inscription is verse 256 of Surat Al-Baqarah, interrupted by circular ornaments colored in gold, red, and green, each of which includes a small cup in the center. The lower part of the neck and the upper part of the body are decorated with floral bands intersected by ornaments with single floral decorations, and on the main part of the body, another inscription appears in a third line, containing the titles of the officer who ordered the making of the lamp, Zain al-Din Mubarak, who was, as indicated by the logo at the top, the bearer of the cup of Sultan al-Malik al-Saleh, whose name is also mentioned. This name was borne by two rulers who were the sons of Nasser al-Din Muhammad ibn Qalawun. The first was King al-Salih Ismail, who ruled in the period 742-45/1342-45, and the second was King al-Salih Salih, who ruled in the period 751-4/1135-4.
