Notes
A dish with a circular base, beveled edges, and covered with a layer of green enamel, composed mainly of copper oxide. The central decoration consists of four rows of combined maroon Kufic inscription - the color - mainly of manganese oxide, in which the word “al-mulik” is repeated twice, an expression widely used in Islamic pottery during the 3rd century AH / 9th century AD from Andalusia to the countries of India. The letters end with tails split in half, which did not become common in Africa until the beginning of the first half of the 3rd century AH / 9th century AD. The ground color is ocher yellow, composed mainly of kohl or iron oxide. This entire group was placed within the shape of a parallelogram, each side of which consists of four strips stacked on top of each other. Copper green, brown and ochre-yellow are the three typical colors of majority pottery, and one is struck by their continued use in Tunisian pottery over the centuries to the present day.
