Notes
Traditional Ottoman clothing was designed to hide people (cover the entire body), which explains the use of many garments layered on top of each other. On the other hand, these multiple layers emphasize the great variety of fabrics, the amazing color contrasts, and the rich structure of the embroidered pieces. The intari is distinctive as an Ottoman women's dress: its length is from the shoulders to the heel or shorter, and it is generally open in the front and has long sleeves that are open at the elbow to reveal the embroidered areas, as well as the colors and decorations on the sleeves at the bottom of the dress. Dense silk embroidery covers the entire surface of the intari. The style's distinctive floral patterns and architectural details are similar to the rich embellishment of certain everyday embroideries from the same period.
