Notes
Ceramics with molded or relief-printed decoration are inspired by Roman or Sassanian metalwork and are known from the beginning of the Umayyad period. This flat plate with a distinctive engraving in the Arabic Kufic script is a later development of this type and is also an example of the pure and harmonious style that was found in Iraq in the Abbasid era.
