Notes In this Qur’an, the beginning of each surah is indicated by a line of religious script that gives the name of the surah and the number of verses in it. Extending from each of these titles is an element of a palm leaf in a very special style, painted in a burgundy color combination of blue, green and gold. These pages are what constituted the final volume of the Qur’an, which has sixty parts. Each of the sixty original volumes begins with a double-page gilt frontispiece similar to the frontispiece (which is now in single-page format) included in this volume.
