Notes The re-emergence of luster decoration in Iranian ceramics took place in the seventeenth century AD as part of the general revival of culture and arts in the Safavid era in Iran. The patronage of the Iranian elite, who were enchanted by the splendor of luxurious Seljuk and Ilkhanid tableware, played a major role in the new renaissance of this tradition. The seventeenth century brought new innovations in terms of both technology and style of Iranian luster painting. The body of the porcelain paste became significantly whiter and denser in structure. The composition and quantity of glass are also improved. It was used freely and richly on the surfaces of ceramic ware, where the decoration with bright paint resembled in its style the decoration on the margins of books or the pages of albums. In the classification of the group of images, human figures gave way to floral models and landscapes, and sometimes they included animals. The garden as a place for entertainment and spiritual retreat and a reminder of the heavenly paradise promised by the Qur’an became the main topic at that time. This small pumpkin-shaped bottle of truth is a wonderful example of the new style of bright paint. In its lower part there are birds and ibex that give life to the favorite Safavid garden and flower images.
