Notes
The green glass bottle has iridescent patterns of turquoise blue and pink due to the alternating phenomenon of the original material. The medieval Islamic style is distinctive in this piece, as the bottle has an elongated pear shape and is used for objects intended to contain ointments or liquid perfumes. However, no direct comparisons have been made of this flask with other examples of similar use. Islamic glass from the Middle Ages was of great value in Asia, Europe and the Middle East because of its high level of artistic craftsmanship and technology. As one of the most productive sectors of trade, glass was a luxury item demonstrating the artistic, formal and decorative developments of Muslim craftsmen and a practical item made to contain oils, perfumes and liquids of all kinds. As for average workmanship, the bottle is classified here as the type intended for daily use.
